In the Bedford Book of Genres’ chapter two, narratives are addressed. Writing a narrative can seem like an extremely stressful process. How do you tell the story exactly how you remember it? How do you make the reader feel what you felt and sense what you sensed? It is always important to make the reader feel as if they were there and to portray the events accurately as they unfolded. This excerpt from BBG helps to reduce some of that stress by talking about what all stories have in common. First, they all follow a plot conclusive of a rising action, conflict, climax, and falling action or resolution. One thing that can help with the plot is to make sure the characters are “as interesting and dynamic as possible.” This will dd to the plot and make the story feel real to the reader. Amongst many other points, another important one made in this excerpt from BBG is about the style of the writing. Your style is how you tell the story ad can be made up of your tone and word choice. This is how one can get the readers to know you as you’re telling the story and will help them to see the events from your eyes. This whole chapter is very helpful by giving many examples and addressing issues with writing narratives an stories.
